AMHERST, Mass. Tied at 2-2 after 50 minutes of action, the No. 8 Mammoths of Amherst College logged two unanswered goals in a three-minute span to down New England College, 4-2 Wednesday evening at Hitchcock Field.

With the win, Amherst improves to 5-1-1 on the season, while New England College falls to 4-5-2 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Breaking through with 7:15 to play in the first half, Weller Hlinomaz registered his first score of the year to give the Mammoths a 1-0 edge. Stealing the ball from a defender near midfield and dishing a pass to Sebastian Derby, Jack O'Brien set the scoring play in motion. Derby notched the assist on the play as he sent a through pass to Hlinomaz racing down the right side who ripped a shot into the bottom left corner.

Responding less than five minutes later, Cooper Valinski (Portsmouth, N.H.) evened the score at 1-1 behind assists from Ryder Valinski (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Owen Lloyd (Somers, N.Y.). One-timing a shot from the top right corner of the box, Valinski powered the ball into the opposite corner of the goal.

Amherst retook the lead in the 48th minute, as the Mammoths drew a foul inside the box to earn a penalty kick. Tasked to take the shot, Hlinomaz converted on the PK to set the score at 2-1.

The Pilgrims once again evened the score almost immediately, as Valinski tallied his second goal of the matchup at the 50:16 mark, winning a race to a loose ball at the top right corner of the box and driving a shot off the goalkeeper's hands and over the goal line.

Closing out the game with two unanswered scores, Amherst clinched the 4-2 victory.

Notching what stood as the game winner in the 51st minute, McMillian stole the ball from a defender inside the box and dished a pass to Coleman for the uncontested score.

McMillian gave Amherst a two-goal cushion three minutes later, as he won the ball in a scramble in front of the net after a throw-in and volleyed a shot into the nylon with 36:06 to play in regulation.

The Mammoths owned a dominative 28-7 edge in shots and 14-1 advantage in corner kicks.

GOALKEEPERS
In between the pipes, Kofi Hope-Gund (3-0-1) made two stops to earn the win, while Tenzin Khenrab (Greenfield, Mass.) recorded six saves for NEC and now sits a 1-3-2 on the season.
