Men's Soccer Blanked by Wheaton College

Box Score Norton, Mass. - First-year Roni Diniz netted three goals as the Wheaton College men's soccer team shut out the New England College (NEC) Pilgrims, 5-0, on Wednesday at Keefe Field.

With the loss the Pilgrims fall to 4-2-0 on the season.

SCORING

The Lyons (4-2) scored their first three goals in the first half to jump on the board early when first-year Neil Fitzgerald pushed through the first goal of the game at 30:22 off a pass from sophomore Adam Waks. Just three minutes later, Diniz would find his first opportunity when junior Amara Sesay took a hard shot, but was deflected by NEC's goalkeeper Dylan Mix. Diniz then took the immediate rebound and headed in the second goal at 33:35 to extend Wheaton's lead. Diniz wouldn't stop there as he seized his second chance at 37:38 where he took a shot from the far left side that crossed through the goal.

Entering the second half ahead 3-0, the Lyons maintained momentum when junior Louis Chavez kicked a pass to Diniz where he was able to notch his third goal from the far side of the net at 47:05. He currently leads the team in goals with five, scoring in the last three straight games.

Waks concluded the scoring spree from Wheaton when he registered the last goal of the game at 68:07 to give Wheaton the 5-0 go ahead win.

GOALTENDING

NEC's Dylan Mix made 11 saves in 63 minutes of work.

New England College will return to action on Saturday, September 17 when they open North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play at Castleton University.
