Box Score New London, N.H. New England College men's soccer netted two goals in the final 10 minutes of play lifting the sixth seeded Pilgrims past the third seeded Colby-Sawyer College Chargers 2-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Quarterfinal action Saturday afternoon.
With the win New England College advances to the NAC Semifinals where they will face the second seeded Castleton University Spartans at Castleton on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
SCORING
Colby-Sawyer junior Eddie Garcia scored the game's first goal in the 19th minute when he finished from the top of the box into the right side of the net. The play was set up by freshman Danilo Salgado.
New England College regrouped at the half and came out with high pressure in the offensive third. The visitors were able to find an equalizer in the 82nd minute. Colby-Sawyer committed a foul to the right of the box setting up a free kick taken by senior
Conor Douglass. He sent a bending ball into a group of players waiting in the box where sophomore
Cooper Valinski flicked the ball with his head into the right corner of the goal.
Four minutes later, New England College took a 2-1 lead off the foot of freshman
Siad Haji. Sophomore
Miguel Argueta started the action with a hard shot that was saved by Colby-Sawyer goalie Jake Towle. The ball bounced off the keeper and found the oncoming Haji who finished his team leading ninth goal of the season.
GOALTENDING
Picking up the win in net for the Pilgrims was Maxime Danis who finished with four saves.
In goal for Colby-Sawyer was Jake Towle who notched six saves.
