Box Score Henniker, N.H. New England College men's soccer snapped a four game losing streak powering past in-state rival Colby-Sawyer College 4-1 Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Pilgrims improve to 5-5-0 overall and grab their first conference win of the season improving to 1-2-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. The loss drops the Chargers to 3-4-1 overall and even their NAC record at 1-1-1.
SCORING
The two teams would battle through much of the opening half scoreless before NEC's
Sina Samali would break the drought heading in a cross from teammate
Camille Sheehan in the 42nd minute.
NEC would extend their lead to 2-0 just three minutes into the second half as
Siad Haji would pass the ball up the middle of the field finding the foot of
Brian Jumpp who would find the back of the net with his second goal of the season. The Pilgrims would make it 3-0 in the 64th minute as Haji would beat a Charger defender and net his fourth goal of the season assisted by
Ronsard Masamba. Colby-Sawyer would get the score back in the net minute as Zach Elmore would send a shot from about 30 yards out that would find the upper left corner of the net making it 3-1. NEC tack on an additional score just 30 seconds later as Haji and Masamba would hook up again.
GOALTENDING
Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Maxime Danis who recorded five saves.
In net for Colby-Sawyer was Jake Towle who finished the game with 10 saves.
WHAT'S NEXT
New England College will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 5 when they host non-conference opponent Amherst College.
Colby-Sawyer will hit the field again on Monday, Oct. 3 when they host non-conference foe Pine Manor College.
