Box Score HENNIKER, N.H.- Wheaton College's Michael Cronin would net two goals as the visiting Lyons topped the New England College Pilgrims 5-0 in men's soccer action Wednesday evening.
With the win the Lyons improve to 5-2-0 overall, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 5-3-0 on the seson.
Wheaton would waste no time getting on the board as Noah Kossoff would get a piece of a Sean Hulbert throw-in just six minutes into the opening half. Neither team would score for the bulk of the remainder of the half until Michael Cronin would drill a shot into the upper right corner of the goal thanks to a feed from Kossoff in the 38th minute.
Wheaton would extend their lead to 3-0 in the 62nd minute as Cronin would record his second goal of the game firing in a shot thanks to a nice tip from Matisse Baumann. The Lyons would tack on two more goals late in the second half as Shawn Suzuki would find the back of the net in the 71st minute and Baumann would convert on a penalty kick in the 86th minute.
Wheaton finished the game out shooting NEC 22-8 and held the 9-5 advantage in corners.
Picking up the win in net for Wheaton was Matt Dickey who recorded three saves in net. In net the bulk of the time for NEC was Dylan Mix who turned away 10 shots.
NEC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 19 when they open North Atlantic Conference play at Husson University. Wheaton will hit the field again on Saturday, Sept. 19 when they battle conference foe Springfield College at home.
