Overtime Goal Lifts Visiting Lord Jeffs Past Pilgrims

Box Score HENNIKER, N.H.- Amherst College men's soccer midfielder Bryce Ciambella (Ocala, Fla.) would put in the game-winner with just 3:36 remaining in the first overtime lifting the visiting Lord Jeffs past the New England College Pilgrims 2-1 Tuesday evening.

With the loss the Pilgrims are now 0-2-0 on the season, while the ninth ranked Lord Jeffs are 1-0-0 overall.

Amherst would start the game with an early scoring opportunity as Justin Aoyama (Philadelphia, Pa.) would have a shot ricochet off the post and out in the opening five minutes of play. The early opportunity would be the best of the half as the Lord Jeffs would out shoot the Pilgrims 16-1 in the first, with 11 shots on net.

Amherst would break the scoring drought in the 51st minute of play as the NEC would be charged with a handball in the box giving the Lord Jeffs the penalty kick. Amherst's Jae Heo (Changwon, South Korea) would convert on the kick putting the Lord Jeffs up 1-0.

NEC would get the equalizer in the 74th minute of plays as senior forward Manny Arteaga (Norwalk, Conn.) would put in a free kick off the foot of Brandon Currier (Merrimack, N.H.). Neither team would muster a goal in the final 15 minutes of play forcing the second overtime game of the season for the Pilgrims.

The Lord Jeffs would have record five shots on net in the first overtime as Ciambella would come up with a loose ball in the box and find the back of the net with 3:36 remaining on the clock giving ninth ranked Amherst their first victory of the season.

Amherst finished the game out shooting the Pilgrims 26-7 on the evening. Picking up the win in goal for Amherst was Thomas Bull (Montgomery, N.J.) who recorded one save. NEC's Tenzin Khenrab (Greenfield, Mass.) notched 14 saves on the evening.

NEC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6 when they travel to take on non-conference opponent Rivier University. Amherst will hit the field again on Sunday, Sept. 7 when they open conference play on the road taking on Middlebury College.
