Box Score Henniker, N.H.— New England College men's soccer battled visiting Daniel Webster to a double overtime 1-1 tie Thursday evening in Henniker.
With the tie the Pilgrims go to 0-1-1 overall, while the Eagles are now 0-2-1 on the season.
The two teams would battle through a scoreless opening half of play as the Pilgrims would out shoot the Eagles 8-2. NEC's best scoring opportunity of the half would come in the 17th minute when midfielder
Manny Arteaga (Norwalk, Conn.) would fire back-to-back shots on net but Eagle keeper Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) would turn away the first and an impressive team save on the second shot would keep the Pilgrims off the board.
Daniel Webster would break the drought in the 58th minute of play as Erick Bourdeau (Alton Bay, N.H.) would head in a corner kick off the foot of Fabian Melo (Northborough, Mass.) putting the Eagles up 1-1.
NEC would notch the game at 1-1 in the 81st minute as
Manny Arteaga would net his first collegiate goal putting a free kick by
Brandon Currier (Merrimack, N.H.).
The two teams would finish the remainder of regulation with no score forcing overtime. Daniel Webster would control much of the momentum in the first overtime as the Eagles would get off to shots off three corners but would come up empty handed. The Pilgrims would show some offensive flutter in the second overtime but neither team would be able to muster a goal.
NEC finished the game out shooting Daniel Webster 22-12.
In net for NEC was
Robert Millard (Barrington, R.I.) who finished the game with seven saves. In net for Daniel Webster was Sean Hamilton who collected eight saves on the evening.
