Men's Lacrosse Falls to Babson College in Season Opener

Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. – Babson College men's lacrosse would notch three goals in the final quarter of play leading the Beavers past the New England College Pilgrims 8-6 Wednesday evening.

With the win the Beavers remain undefeated on the season improving to 3-0, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 0-1 overall.

The Pilgrims would open the scoring five minutes into play as DJ Sellick (Connetqot, N.Y.) would record his first collegiate goal unassisted. The Beavers would respond with back-to-back goals, including an unassisted goal by JermeyYudkin (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) putting Babson up 2-1 midway through the first quarter. NEC would close out the opening quarter with three straight scores, including another by Sellick and an unassisted goal by James Putney (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) giving the Pilgrims the 4-2 advantage.

The Babson offense would come alive in the second quarter of play as the Beavers would outscore the Pilgrims 3-1, including a man-up goal by Tom Mallon (Manhasset, N.Y.), knotting the game at 5-5 heading into halftime.

The two teams would battle through a scoreless third quarter of play before the Beavers would break the scoring drought recording two goals in forty seconds jumping out the 7-5 advantage. The Pilgrims would cut the lead to 7-6 as Sam Freihofner (Scarsdale, N.Y.) would net his first goal of the season with 8:59 to play. Babson's Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) would give the Beavers some breathing room late as he would score assisted by Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.) giving Babson the 8-6 lead with 2:17 on the clock.

Picking up the win in net for Babson was James Whalen (Westwood, Mass.) who finished with 14 saves. In goal for NEC was Nick Aquaviva (Syracuse, N.Y.) who recorded 13 saves on the afternoon.
