Men's Lacrosse Wins Third Straight

HENNIKER, N.H. - Pilgrims Men's Lacrosse won their third consecutive game as they took down Albertus Magnus on Saturday by a final score of 13-3.

Freshman Owen Taylor (Lanesborough, Mass.) got the scoring started just over two minutes into the game as he gave the Pilgrims an early 1-0 lead. It took four minutes for the Pilgrims to strike again as Taylor buried his second goal of the game shortly before junior Andrew Pepka (Pembroke, N.H.) extended the lead to three off a pass from junior Matt O'Rourke (Concord, N.H.). O'Rourke would feed Pepka once more to put the Pilgrims up 4-0. A goal from freshman Shane Helman (Parma, Ohio) sent the Pilgrims into the second quarter with a 5-0 lead.

It took six minutes into the second for the Falcons to fire back as they cut the lead to four before graduate Evan Zonderman (Dracut, Mass.) answered with a goal of his own. Freshman Hunter Knice (Red Bank, N.J.) got on the board as the Pilgrims went up 7-1. Two more goals from Helman gave the Pilgrims a 9-1 lead heading into the half.

Zonderman scored his second goal of the game five and a half minutes into the third before Pepka and Taylor added a goal apiece as the Pilgrims took a 12-1 lead into the final quarter.

The Falcons got three shots on goal to start the fourth, all saved by junior Nate Finn (Norwood, Mass.) to protect the lead. Taylor found the back of the net again for his fourth of the game to make it a 12-goal game. Albertus Magnus scored twice in just over a minute to cut the lead to ten, but Finn's five saves helped the Pilgrims secure the win.

Taylor's four goals and an assist made him the game's leading scorer with five points, as Pepka's four followed behind. Taylor and Knice each scooped up seven ground balls as Helman and Zonderman each registered six.

Zonderman went 16-18 in faceoffs in the win.

The Pilgrims finish their regular season on Tuesday as they host the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Don Melander Field at 4:00 PM.
