HENNIKER, N.H.—The New England College men's soccer team posted its second straight shutout on Saturday afternoon, defeating Anna Maria College 2-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action. With the win, the Pilgrims improve to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in TCCC play, while the Amcats remain winless and fall to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
After a scoreless first half, NEC sophomore
Mark Mangini (Derry, N.H.) would tally his first goal of the season 1:05 into the second half on a cross from junior
John Gabriel (West Nyack, N.Y.). The Pilgrims would strike again almost 20 minutes later when
Isma Mugenyi (Haverhill, Mass.) crossed the ball to
Sean Walsh (Kingston, Mass.) who headed it past the Anna Maria keeper.
Pat Harkin (Scituate, R.I.) recorded six saves for NEC en route to the shutout. Anna Maria goalkeeper Eric Perkins (Peabody, Mass.) stopped nine shots as the Pilgrims outshot the Amcats 26-19.
NEC returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to the University of New England for a 4:00 p.m. matchup. Anna Maria is slated to host Roger Williams University on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
