Henniker, N.H. - New England College's
Paul McLean (E. Hartford, Conn.) would net the game-winner with just under five minutes in regulation lifting the Pilgrims past the visiting Curry College Colonels 3-2 Wednesday afternoon. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 5-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in TCCC play. The loss is the first in conference play for the Colonels who move to 4-1-0 in the TCCC and 6-3-1 overall.
The Pilgrims wouldn't waste much time as senior captain
Kagan Sinclair would dribble past a Colonel defender and net his fourth goal of the season just 4:06 into the match. Curry's Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass.) would answer as he would head in a free kick off the foot of Graham Becker (Sparks Glencoe, Md.) knotting the game at 1-1 at the 19:44 mark.
NEC would regain their lead early in the second half of play as
Peter Koskores (N. Andover, Mass.) would put in a pass from Sinclair just 1:05 into the half. Curry would be quick to respond again as Jesse Fishman (Tarzana, Calif.) would float in a shot over the NEC keeper assisted by Salders just over four minutes later.
The two teams would battle through the next 35 minutes scoreless before NEC's
Paul McLean would clean up a loose ball in front of the net with just 4:13 remaining in regulation giving the Pilgrims the 3-2 lead. Curry would have an opportunity late as a shot from Jesse Fishman would deflect off the post but the Pilgrim defense would hold on for the 3-2 victory.
The Colonels would finish the afternoon with the advantage in shots leading the Pilgrims 15-10.
Picking up the win in net for NEC was
Pat Harkin (Scituate, R.I.) who finished with five saves. In net for Curry was Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J.) who recorded two saves.
NEC will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3 when they host conference opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology at 2:30 p.m. Curry will host conference opponent Regis on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
