QUEENSBURY, N.Y. - The New England College alpine ski team ventured out to West Mountain in Queensbury, New York for the Vermont State University Castleton Carnival, for a pair of giant slalom races on Saturday and Sunday.
NEC senior Robert Hotchkiss (New Durham, N.H.) was the lone finisher for the men on Saturday as he came in 87th with a time of 2:38.70. On Sunday, he improved his total time to 2:35.29 and finished in 83rd overall.
Junior Hogan Bemis (Stow, Maine) posted a 1:09.37 on his first run on Saturday before a DNF on his second run ended his day. He posted a strong 1:05.87 in his first run on Saturday followed by a 1:10.84 in run two. He finished in 58th place on Sunday with a 2:16.71.
After a DNF on Saturday, freshman Tommaso Sala (Villanova D'Albenla, Italy) finished in 66th after posting runs of 1:06.84 and 1:12.87 for a total of 2:19.71.
On Saturday, sophomore Lorelei Holloway (Ashland, Va.) placed 59th with a two-run total time of 2:48.36. She had her best run of the weekend on Sunday with a 1:20.07, finishing day two in 53rd place in 2:48.79.
The Pilgrims will return to their home mountain next Saturday, January 7th, with slalom race pegged for a 9:00 AM start time in Henniker, New Hampshire.
