ANDOVER, N.H. - The New England College alpine ski team competed in the Babson Carnival at Proctor Ski Area in Andover, New Hampshire on Friday and Saturday in the second weekend of competition in the USCSA MacConnell Division.
NEC freshman Tommaso Sala (Villanova D'Albenla, Italy) placed 53rd overall and 15th in the U18 division in Friday's slalom competition. He posted runs of 48.13 and 47.52, totaling 1:35.65 while finishing 8.65 seconds behind the lead. On Saturday, he once again led the team in the slalom with a 69th place finish and a total time of 1:36.65.
Junior Hogan Bemis (Stow, Maine) had a first run time of 52.18 before posting a DNF on his second run.
On Friday, senior Robert Hotchkiss (New Durham, N.H.) and sophomore Owen Kizak (Manchester, N.H.) finished back-to-back in the slalom, placing 70th and 71st, respectively. On day two, Hotchkiss posted a 1:55.87 in 87th while Kizak finished in 89th with a 2:00.05.
Sophomore Lorelei Holloway (Ashland, Va.) was the lone ladies' skier for the Pilgrims, finishing in 60th with a 2:16.64 after individual runs of 1:10.70 and 1:05.94.
The Pilgrims will head to Whiteface Mountain in New York next weekend for the Clarkson Carnival on Saturday and Sunday, with each day of competition beginning around 9:00 AM.
