HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College junior Lukas Tate (South Jordan, Utah) of the NEC men's soccer team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) co-Goalkeeper of the Week for the opening weekend ending on August 31st.
Tate and the NEC defense could not have asked for a better start to the season, going 2-0 behind a pair of shutouts against Plymouth State and UM-Presque Isle.
In the team's season opener against the Panthers on Friday afternoon, Tate made five saves and held the Panthers scoreless in the 2-0 win. Against the Owls on Saturday, Tate and company held their opponent to just 10 shots and zero shots on goal – snuffing out any legitimate offensive threats made by the Owls' front line.
Tate was named the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week once last season in what was ultimately an impressive sophomore campaign for the Utah native. He has now already matched his total from last season with two shutouts in as many games and will look to continue his strong play after leading all goaltenders in the conference in both save percentage and goals against average last season.
The 'Grims are back in action next weekend for a pair of non-conference games against VTSU-Lyndon on Saturday and VTSU-Randolph on Sunday.
