HENNIKER, N.H. - Junior midfielder Daniel Varga (Hampton, N.J.) of the New England College men's lacrosse team has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for the week ending on April 6th, in an announcement by the conference on Monday afternoon. 

Varga receives this recognition for the second time this year, having arguably his best week of the season as the Pilgrims swept a pair of conference matchups to extend their winning streak to three games. On Tuesday, Varga accounted for half of the team's 14 goals against Norwich, scoring seven times and making four assists for an 11-point showing in the win. On Saturday, after being recognized as part of senior day, Varga scored a career-high nine goals as part of a 22-3 beatdown of Albertus Magnus. In the game, the New Jersey-native added three assists as well as a season-high eight ground balls and three caused turnovers. 

Danny's 16 goals, seven assists, and 23 points were the most he has recorded in a single week this season. Varga now holds a comfortable lead among all players in the GNAC with 46 goals scored and 72 total points, with teammate Henri Pfeifle (Darien, Conn.) sitting second in both categories with 38 and 57, respectively. Varga sits second in the conference with 26 assists and snuck into the top 10 with 41 ground balls. He continues to excel in his first season in Henniker. 

The 'Grims have won three straight GNAC contests with their wins against Anna Maria, Norwich, and Albertus Magnus, with each of the last two being North Division opponents. The team currently sits third in the North with a 2-1 record and is set to host top-ranked Emmanuel College on Wednesday at 7:00 PM under the lights at Don Melander Field.
