Lewis Powers Women’s Basketball Over Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The New England College women's basketball team won 75-44 at Mitchell College on Saturday at the Yarnall Athletic Center in New London, Connecticut in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

TURNING POINTS
  • After a slow start, the Pilgrims started to pull away late in the second quarter, finishing the half on a 7-2 run as they went into halftime with a 35-23 lead. The visitors were carried by an outstanding performance by NEC sophomore forward Camryn Lewis (Taunton, Mass.) who posted a double-double in the first half with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Early in the third quarter, the 'Grims used a 9-0 capped off with a jumper from NEC junior guard Mackenzie McDonald (Boscawen, N.H.) to increase their lead to 22, as they never looked back.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Lewis led the 'Grims with her first double-double since coming to NEC, totaling 19 points and 17 rebounds in just 19 minutes.
  • NEC senior forward Gabriella Matlock (Tulare, Calif.) was a force at both ends of the court with 15 points and eight rebounds.
  • Mitchell senior guard Kyrsten Lucas (Manchester, Md.) and freshman guard Jordyn Streitmatter (Brewster, Mass.) each finished with nine points for the Mariners while freshman forward N'Tai Teague (Houston, Tex.) posted nine seven points with four boards.
  • NEC freshman guard Kaira Creary (Federal Way, Wash.) added nine points while senior guard Amya Moss (Norfolk, Va.) filled the stat line with six points, five assists, four rebounds, one block and one steal.
