Women's Basketball Falls to Norwich

NORTHFIELD, V.T. – The New England College women's basketball team dropped a road matchup at Norwich on Wednesday at Andrews Gym in Northfield, Vermont in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.  

THE BASICS 
Score: New England College: 45, Norwich University: 66  
Records: Pilgrims: 10-12, 4-7 GNAC, Cadets 9-12, 3-8 GNAC 

 
TURNING POINTS 

  • The Cadets got the scoring started early as Erika Thomas scored eight of the first 13 points for Norwich. Senior forward Gabriella Matlock (Tulare, Calif.) finished the opening frame with six of the Pilgrims' ten points as they fell behind 23-10 after ten minutes. The second quarter saw a drop-off in scoring as each team scored nine points as Maren McGinn went into the half with 11 points. 
  • McGinn kept it going to start the second half as she scored five points in the first four minutes of the third quarter. Each attempt at a comeback from the Pilgrims was answered by a barrage of points from the Cadets. Norwich held on to secure a 21-point victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • McGinn led all scorers with 20, with Haley Brewster and Thomas following with 12 and 8, respectively for Norwich. Sophomore forward Camryn Lewis (Taunton, Mass.) led the Pilgrims with 10, with senior forward Gabriella Matlock (Tulare, Calif.) following with nine and sophomore guard Bailey Burke (New Bedford, Mass.) with six. 
  • Jessie Zimmerman led the game with five assists. Matlock, senior guard Amya Moss (Norfolk, Va.), and junior forward Abigail Lacy (Arroyo Grande, Calif.) had an assist each. 
  • McGinn led the game in rebounds with nine. Zimmerman followed with eight, with Sage MacAuley and Lewis with seven each. 
  • McGinn, Lewis, and junior guard Macy Gordon (Boscawen, N.H.) all had a block in the matchup. 

UP NEXT 

  • Up next for NEC, the team visits Johnson and Wales on Saturday in Providence, R.I. at 1:00 PM. 
  • Norwich heads to Newton, Mass. on Saturday as they visit Lasell.
