PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The New England College men's wrestling team suffered a 41-13 loss against the Anchormen of Rhode Island College on Saturday at the Recreation Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

TOP 'GRIMS
  • Things got on their way with freshman Dominic Gangi (Methuen, Mass.) who was dealt with a tall task facing a fierce competitor in RIC senior Fred Luchs (Belford, N.J.) who was the victor by fall. Giving the Anchormen the early six-point advantage.
  • NEC would manage to retaliate with some points of their own as junior Caden Frost (Steep Falls, Maine) helped get the 'Grims on the board with a decision victory to make it a 6-3 advantage still favoring RIC.
  • Next up was senior Boburjon Berdiyorov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) who had 20 wins going into today picked another win in convincing fashion receiving a technical fall victory that bestows the senior with 21 wins thus far on the season. The score would be in favor of the 'Grims, 8-6.
  • RIC would take the next match in retaliation to the previous bout as NEC sophomore Michael Follo (Derry, N.H.) would come up short in his match against senior Michael Pestana (North Bergen, N.J.). Pestana managed to come out on top in a scramble that occurred late in the first round that resulted in Follo having both shoulders pinned to mat. Pestana's win by fall would put the Anchorman back out in front, 12-8.
  • NEC would rely upon junior Zach Soda (Burlington, Mass.) who has played an essential role now being back in the lineup for the 'Grims would take on RIC junior Cooper Lavigne (East Hartford, Conn.). Soda had complete control of the match from start to finish over Lavigne that would end in a decision victory for Soda. The score would be knotted up 12-12 only for a short duration of time.
  • The remaining matches for the 'Grims were too much for them to overcome with Anchormen tacking on additional 28 points claiming victory over NEC on the day, 41-13.
