Bean, Hughes Place as Men’s Wrestling Competes at NEWA Futures

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The New England College men's wrestling team competed at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Invitational hosted by Western New England University on Sunday in Springfield, Massachusetts.

TOP 'GRIMS
  • Junior Josh Bean (Londonderry, N.H.) went 3-1 on the day, overcoming a loss in the opening round of the 184 pound bracket and picking up three straight wins in the consolation rounds, finishing the day in fifth place.
  • Junior Patrick Hughes (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished in sixth place in the 133 pounds bracket, going 4-2. After losing in the first round, the junior took a bye in the consolation bracket before reeling off four consecutive wins by fall before coming up short in the semifinals of the consolation bracket.
  • Sophomore Andrew Piedrahita (Westford, Mass.), competing at 157 pounds, went 3-2 on the day, overcoming a loss in the first round to win his next three matches in the consolation bracket, winning by technical fall (16-0), then posting back-to-back victories by fall before bowing out in the second round of eight in the consolation bracket.
  • Senior Wyatt Gentile (Sunset Beach, N.C.) – competing at 133 pounds, picked up a win by fall in 4:40 in the first round before falling short in the second. In the consolation bracket, he picked up a win by forfeit before bowing out in the next round.
  • NEC junior Joseph Gangi (Methuen, Mass.) went 0-2 and two after receiving a bye in the opening roun.
  • Freshman Dominic Gangi (Methuen, Mass.) went 0-2 with a win by forfeit in the 165 pounds bracket.
