Women’s Basketball Bounces Back at Elms, 67-57

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The New England College women's basketball team won 67-57 at Elms College on Saturday at Picknelly Arena in Chicopee, Massachusetts in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

TURNING POINTS
  • After going into halftime up 28-23, the Pilgrims found themselves ahead 46-39 going into the fourth. The Blazers made their move in the final quarter, scoring eight of the first ten points to pull to within one. With their season on the line, NEC responded with a 9-0 run capped off with a free throw by senior guard Amya Moss (Norfolk, Va.). Elms pulled to within five with 2:57 left in the game, only for the visitors to close out with a 7-2 run, with NEC senior guard Isyss Scott (Bakersfield, Calif.) making three-of-six free throws in the final moments to ice the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC freshman guard Kaira Creary (Federal Way, Wash.) exploded for a career-high 15 points including three three-pointers.
  • NEC sophomore guard Bailey Burke (New Bedford, Mass.) posted 12 points and six rebounds to go along with a career-high five steasl.
  • Elms graduate guard Rahmia Johnston (Newtown, Conn.) led the Blazers with 14 points and seven rebounds.
  • Moss filled the stat-line with ten points, five boards and four assists.
  • Elms freshman forward Mary Turco (Winthrop, Mass.) posted a double-double for the Blazers with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
  • NEC sophomore forward Camryn Lewis (Taunton, Mass.) missed a double-double of her own with ten points and nine boards.
  • NEC held the edge in field goal shooting, 45.5 percent to 30.6 percent.
