Guzman Named GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week

HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College junior Matt Guzman (San Bernandino, Calif.) of the NEC men's soccer team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week for the week ending on October 12th.

Guzman made 20 saves across two GNAC contests for the Pilgrims as the team split the week with a narrow 0-1 loss to St Joseph's (ME) on Tuesday before defeating Elms on Saturday. He made a career-high 13 saves against the Monks with just the one goal allowed and made seven more against the Mariners. The junior conceded two goals, one of which was a penalty kick, but picked up his second win of the season.

The junior transfer posted a save percentage of .870 on the week and improved his mark on the season to .839. He sits second in the GNAC in save percentage and third with a 1.00 goals-against average for the season, with all four of his starts coming against conference opponents.

Matt is the second NEC goalie to earn weekly recognition this season as junior Lukas Tate (South Jordan, Utah) was named the conference Goalie of the Week twice in the first month of the season before suffering an injury. As a team, the Pilgrims are allowing just 1.08 goals per game, which is the third lowest mark in the conference – behind only Norwich and Emmanuel.

Guzman and the 'Grims will look to pick up a non-conference win at home against Framingham State on Tuesday at 7:00 PM before traveling to Albertus Magnus on Saturday, October 18th.
