JOHNSON, VT - The New England College women's volleyball team defeated the Badgers of Vermont State University - Johnson in four sets on Tuesday night at Carter Gymnasium in Johnson, Vermont, in nonconference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pilgrims played well right out of the gate and did not trail for a single point in the entire first set. A kill by sophomore right-side hitter Maeve Amarosa (Madbury, N.H.) would secure the first set by a score of 25-18.
- With the 'Grims up 5-4 early in the second set, the Badgers went on an 8-0 run to seize control of the set and never turned back, ultimately taking the set 25-20.
- Following a loud response from the hosts in the second set, the 'Grims had an immediate response of their own – a 9-0 run to begin set number three. NEC dominated and kept Johnson at arm's length throughout the entire set, which was won by the Pilgrims, 25-18.
- NEC kept things going in the fourth set with multiple large runs leading to a comfortable lead that would be held throughout the entire set. Junior outside hitter Lily-Anne Heywood (Derry, N.H.) capped off a strong night with a kill to take the fourth set in convincing fashion by a score of 25-13.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Graduate middle-blocker Tatiana Sampson totaled a team-high eight kills and four blocks on the night.
- Sophomore setter Alexandra Seijas (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the team with 17 assists and added 11 digs and three service aces.
- Heywood had a strong all-around performance with nine digs, six kills, and three aces. Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Winters (Dover, N.H.) added five kills, three service aces, and two blocks.
- For the Badgers, Max Ludlow (Arvada, Colo.) led all players with 16 kills while Delaney Gross (Queechee, Vt.) had a game-high 26 assists and Sasha Khomutetsky (Hollywood, Calif.) had a game-high 23 digs.
- NEC was serving it well tonight, posting 12 service aces while the hosts had just four.
