BRISTOL, R.I. - The New England College women's volleyball team lost both of their Saturday afternoon at the Roger Williams Invitational in Bristol, Rhode Island, falling in straight sets to the Rams of Suffolk University before falling short in four to the host Hawks of RWU on the backend. The Pilgrims run their record to 0-3 to open the 2024 season.
SUFFOLK 3, NEC 0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-21)
- After falling short in the first two sets against the Rams, the 'Grims found themselves down 13-6 in the third. That's when NEC stormed back, winning four of the next five rallies including a pair of aces by NEC junior setter Aurora Gutierrez-Macias (El Paso, Tex.) and pulling to within three while facing match point, 24-21. But Suffolk would close out off a kill from freshman right-side Sam Michon (Longmeadow, Mass.) to take the match.
- Gutierrez-Macias would lead the Pilgrims with three kills, three aces and eight digs, all team highs. Collectively, NEC would finish with eight aces.
- Suffolk senior outside hitter McKenna Keowen (San Ramon, Calif.) led the Rams with eleven kills.
NEC 1, ROGER WILLIAMS 3 (25-10, 23-25, 25-13, 25-14)
- After dropping the first set, NEC would edge Roger Williams in the second, coming from behind 20-16 to take it 25-23, a run that included three points from Gutierrez-Macias. But the Hawks claimed the third and fourth sets to take the match.
- NEC junior outside hitter Lily-Anne Heywood (Derry, N.H.) led the Pilgrims with eleven kills and two service aces.
- RWU junior outside hitter Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) led all players with 15 kills and four block assists.
- Gutierrez-Macias posted a team-high 16 digs with 12 set assists and four kills for the 'Grims.
- RWU sophomore libero Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) led all players with 21 digs.
- NEC sophomore libero Alyssa Dunbar-Molina (El Paso, Tex.) posted 11 digs and four assists.

- NEC is back on the court on Wednesday when they open their home schedule in Henniker with a 6:00 p.m. match against the Scots of Gordon College at the Bridges Gymnasium.
