YORK, Penn. – The New England College men's wrestling team finished twelfth out of 15 teams at the New Standard Invitational on Saturday at M&T Bank Field House in York, Pennsylvania.
TOP 'GRIMS
- Junior Patrick Hughes (Chelmsford, Mass.) opened his run with a 17-1 technical fall. After earning a bye in the opening consolation round, he was eliminated after another technical fall.
- Junior Caden Frost (Steep Falls, Maine) earned a pinfall victory in the first round just 2:08 into the first period. In the second period, he earned a 9-0 major decision victory. After falling in a major decision in the quarterfinal, he won in a 9-3 decision to advance in the consolation bracket. He fell in the consi-semis to advance to the next round. In the fifth-place match, he won off a last-second takedown to finish in fifth
- Sophomore Michael Follo (Derry, N.H.) lost in an 8-4 decision in the first round. After pinning his opponent in the first consolation round, he then lost by decision in the next to be eliminated.
- Senior Wyatt Gentile (Sunset Beach, N.C.) earned a bye in the opening round before falling in two quick losses by pin.
- Senior Boburjon Berdiyorov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) pinned his way to the round of 16 before winning by technical fall and pinned his way into the semi-finals. He won a tight 4-1 decision to advance to the finals. Berdiyorov fell in the finals due to riding time to finish second.
- Junior Cole Patterson (Raleigh, N.C.) fell by pinfall in the opening round. After a bye in the first consolation round, he lost by 17-0 technical fall to be eliminated.
- Sophomore Andrew Piedrahita (Westford, Mass.) was pinned in the opening round. After a bye in the first consolation round, he was pinned in the second, ending his run for the weekend.
- Freshman Rocco Hayden (Oxford, Maine) earned a bye in the opening round. After losing by technical fall and major decisions, his weekend was over.
- Freshman Dominic DeMaio (Methuen, Mass.) was pinned just under a minute into his first-round match. After earning a bye in the first consolation round, he was pinned again to end his weekend.
- Freshman Joseph Bolduc (Methuen, Mass.) earned a bye in his first-round match. After pinning his way to the quarterfinals, he lost by technical fall to be pushed into the consolation bracket. In his first consolation match, he won by a 16-7 major decision to advance. In the next round, he fell 14-8 to wrap up his weekend.
- Junior Kyle Gora (Hudson, N.H.) earned a pin in the first round before falling by pin in the second. In his first consolation match, he earned a win by technical fall. After pinning to advance in the consolation bracket, he forfeited his final match.
- Senior Trevion Atallah (Reading, Mass.) earned a first-round bye before losing by pinfall twice to end his weekend.
