PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The New England College men's wrestling team had a successful outing at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Saturday from the Murray Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Their outing at the invitational concluded with the team finishing in third place, totaling 89 points. Four 'Grims placed at the invitational being junior
Caden Frost (Steep Falls, Maine), freshman
Dominic Gangi (Methuen, Mass.), freshman
Joseph Bolduc (Methuen, Mass.), and freshman
Rocco Hayden (Oxford, Maine).
TOP 'GRIMS
- NEC Bolduc performed well in his collegiate invitational day view winning two matches by fall, one by major decision, and one by medical forfeit that earned him a spot into the finals. Bolduc's match was a victorious bout over Oneonta Aydin Deforest by fall (4:39) claiming third place at 174 lbs. with a 5-1 record.
- NEC Frost got the ball rolling early picking up his first win over VTSU Castleton John Marcellus by TF, 15-0. Frost took on another Spartan that ended his hand getting raised once again over Jake Voute by decision, 15-9. The semifinals match for Frost ended in his favor collecting a win over VTSU Castleton Viktor Banda. Unfortunately, Frost came up short, losing his match in the finals by fall (4:31) over Shea Morris. Frost ended with a 3-1 record earning second place at 141lbs.
- NEC Gangi started off winning his first by fall (1:39) over Oneonta Konnor Rosenzweig. The next match ended with the freshman taking a tumble losing to unattached Ryan O'Rourke by TF, 16-5. From there on Gangi went on a roll dominating the rest of the competition put in front of him finishing in 3rd place at 125 lbs. with a 5-1 record.
- NEC Hayden won his first four matches earning three wins by fall and one by technical fall that bestowed him a spot in the finals. His match ended in loss by TF, 21-5 against unattached wrestler in junior Zach Soda (Burlington, Mass.) finishing in second place at 157 lbs. with a record of 4-1.
- NEC Soda was recognized as an unattached wrestler and excelled at the 157 weight class defeating all opponents obtaining first place at the invitational.
- NEC freshman Dominic DeMaio (Methuen, Mass.) finished 0-2.
- NEC sophomore Michael Follo (Derry, N.H.) had a 2-2 record.
- NEC junior Joseph Gangi (Methuen, Mass.) went 2-2 on the day.
- NEC senior Wyatt Gentile (Sunset Beach, N.C.) finished with a 1-2 record.
- NEC junior Patrick Hughes (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished with a 2-2 record.
- NEC sophomore Brandon Lavasta (Lawrence, Mass.) compiled a 2-2 record.
- NEC junior Cole Patterson (Raleigh, N.C.) had a 0-2 record.
- NEC sophomore Andrew Piedrahita (Westford, Mass.) wrapped up his day with a 1-2 record.
- NEC senior Trevion Atallah (Reading, Mass.) finished 0-2.
