EAST STROUDSBURG, Penn. – The New England College men's wrestling team competed at the 57
th Annual East Stroudsburg University Invitational on Sunday at the Koehler Fieldhouse in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Collectively, the Pilgrims finished seventh with 41.5 points in their first competition of the 2024-2025 season.
TOP 'GRIMS
- Junior Joseph Gangi (Methuen, Mass.) went 3-2 in the 149-pound bracket, reaching the quarterfinals before going into the consolation rounds.
- Freshman Dominic Gangi (Methuen, Mass.) posted a strong start to his collegiate career at the 125-pound class, winning his first two bouts to reach the quarterfinals and finishing 3-2 for the day.
- Senior Wyatt Gentile (Sunset Beach, N.C.) competed in the 133-pound competition, getting a first-round bye and then going 2-2 on the mat.
- Sophomore Brandon Lavasta (Lawrence, Mass.) reached the quarterfinals of the 285-pound open, getting a bye into the round of 16 and picking up a win to advance before falling by decision. Lavasta then went 1-1 in consolation bouts to finish 2-2 on the day.
- Freshman Rocco Hayden (Oxford, Maine) went 2-2 in the 157-pound open.
- Sophomore Michael Follo (Derry, N.H.) went 2-3 in the 133-pound bracket.
- Senior Trevion Atallah (Reading, Mass.) went 1-2 in the 197-pound bracket.
- Sophomore Andrew Piedrahita (Westford, Mass.) went 1-2 at the 157-pound open after a first-round bye.
- Freshman Joseph Bolduc (Methuen, Mass.) picked up a win in the 174-pound bracket after getting a first round bye, finishing 1-2 on the day.
- Junior Patrick Hughes (Chelmsford, Mass.) went 0-2 after getting a first round bye in the 125- pound bracket.
