Men’s Wrestling Competes at Doug Parker

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The New England College men's wrestling team competed at the 2024 Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College on Saturday at Blake Arena in Springfield, Massachusetts.

TOP 'GRIMS
  • Competing in the 149 pound bracket as the fourth seed, NEC senior Boburjon Berdiyorov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) had a bye in the first round, followed by a win 19-4 technical fall win over Kyle Rhoton of Bridgewater State in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Berdiyorov prevailed over Caleb Seyfried of Williams in a 6-3 decision. The semifinals saw Berdiyorov face top-seeded Colby Frost of the University of Southern Maine, where he took a 16-8 Fall in 6:10. Facing Xavier Pena of Centenary in the third place match, Berdiyorov batted to a 14-7 win by decision, ending his day on a high note.
  • NEC junior Caden Frost (Steep Falls, Maine) had a strong run in the 133 pound competition. After a bye in the first round, he won a 20-3 technical fall (4:25) over Ariel Escalante of Springfield in the Round of 16, followed by a 9-7 decision win over Ty Trickle of Trinity in the quarterfinals. In the semis against Chase Randall of Coast Guard, Frost came up short in an 11-2 major decision. In the third place bout, Frost best Jaden Colwell of Springfield by Fall (2:24).
  • NEC freshman Joseph Bolduc (Methuen, Mass.) reached the quarterfinals in the 174 pound bracket, before ultimately rallying to reach the fifth-place match in consolation, winning by forfeit.
  • NEC junior Patrick Hughes (Chelmsford, Mass.) reached the quarterfinals of the 125 pound bracket, winning by fall in 1:54 in the first round before advancing with a 6-5 decision in the second round. In the quarters, Hughes came up short in a 15-0 technical fall loss (2:32) to Fred Luchs of Rhode Island College. In the consolation round of eight, Hughes faced Robert Stone of Rhode Island College, picking up the win by Fall in 2:41. Facing Alex Schaeublin of Trinity in the consolation round of four, Hughes lost a 19-8 major decision.
