Men’s Basketball Falls to Nor’easters

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The New England College men's basketball team fell short at the University of New England on Saturday at Harold Alfond Forum in Biddeford, Maine in non-conference action.

THE BASICS
Score: New England College 81, University of New England 95
Records: Pilgrims 0-5 | Nor'easters 2-3

TURNING POINTS

  • The game started with a quick three from each team as sophomore guard Mike Strazzeri (Chichester, N.H.) and Jimmy Hulland both buried one from deep just 43 seconds into the game. Over the next two minutes, graduate guard Nick Gomeau (Enfield, Conn.) made two baskets to give the Pilgrims a 4-point lead. Senior guard Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) scored six points in the next five minutes to give the 'Grims a one-point lead halfway through the first half. The final ten minutes of the first half were dominated by the Nor'easters, led by Jayden Thornton and Zach Boulay as UNE took a 50-31 lead into the locker room.

  • The Pilgrims slowly fought back to get the deficit within ten with just 3:36 to go in the game, led by Gomeau and Williams. From there, it was all UNE as every NEC basket was answered with a response from the Nor'easters. With baskets from Strazzeri and Gomeau, the lead was insurmountable, and UNE held on for the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Boulay led the game with 21 points, with Adam Lux following behind with 18, combining for 39 points for the Nor'easters. Williams led the Pilgrims with 19.

  • Adrien Torres achieved a double-double as he accompanied his 11 points with 13 assists, leading the game. Both Gomeau and Strazzeri gathered 4 assists each for the 'Grims.

  • Williams completed a double-double of his own, with 16 rebounds, leading the game.
