HOW IT HAPPENED
- NEC was tied with the cadets at 4-4 and began to fire on all cylinders that allowed for them to go on a 6-0 run that provided them the lead, 9-4 forcing a Norwich timeout. The 'Grims continued to roll as they obtained another run towards the end of the set of seven points thanks to the sophomore setter Alexandra Seijas (Fort Myers, Fla.) who collected four services aces making it, 24-14. Junior outside hitter Lily-Anne Heywood (Derry, N.H.) had the final kill for the 'Grims to take the first set, 25-16.
- The second set began with a 1-4 lead in favor of NEC, but the Cadets would answer back earning two points off a kill from sophomore outside hitter Kate Finn (Peru, N.Y.) and an attack error to bring Norwich within one, 4-3. That didn't phase the 'Grims as they produced a 4-0 run to bestow them a five-point lead, 8-3. Their biggest lead of the set came down the stretch as they recorded an impressive nine straight points to go up by 13 points, 19-6. Placing them in perfect position to claim the set over Norwich as the final two points would come from a Heywood kill and an attack error at fault of the Cadets, 25-12.
- Things for the 'Grims picked up back where they left off as they had complete control of the third set beginning with a 5-0 advantage. During the set NEC gathered a 13-6 lead over the Cadets that forced NU to call a timeout. The Cadets only managed to gather four points after the timeout that didn't prove to be enough to stop the momentum gained by NEC concluding with the 'Grims securing their sixth GNAC win of the season.
