HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College senior goalkeeper Hayden Walker (Manchester, N.H.) of the NEC men's soccer team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week for the week ending on October 20th. This is the third consecutive week Walker has earned this honor, and the fourth time in his career.
Walker continues to dominate in net in his senior season for the 'Grims, making 12 saves while allowing only one goal in the team's two games this week. In a narrow 0-1 loss to Colby-Sawyer College on Tuesday, Walker made four saves. On Saturday, the team traveled to Dean for a must-win game, and Walker delivered his fifth shutout of the season – making eight saves in the 'Grims pivotal 2-0 victory. His five shutouts are tied for the most in the conference despite only starting 10 games thus far this season.
Walker now ranks third in the GNAC in both save percentage and goals-against average at .859 and .950, respectively, with the former currently representing his career-best mark. The team as a whole ranks second in the conference in goals-against average at 0.93, trailing only first place Johnson & Wales in the category.
The Pilgrims will conclude the regular season with back-to-back home games, first facing off against Norwich University on Wednesday at 4:00 PM, before hosting the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday for Senior Day beginning at 3:00 PM.
