HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College senior goalkeeper Hayden Walker (Manchester, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week for the week ending on October 13th. This marks the second time in as many weeks that Walker has earned GNAC weekly honors.
Walker had another strong week in net for the 'Grims, allowing just one goal across 180 minutes of action across the team's two games. On Wednesday, Walker made six saves against St. Joseph's College of Maine to help preserve the scoreless 0-0 draw. Against Regis College on Saturday, Walker stopped five more shots in a 1-1 tie – concluding the week with 11 saves and a .917 save percentage against two teams in the top-half of the GNAC standings. The senior now has four shutouts on the season and ranks fourth in the conference in save percentage.
"It is great to see one of our players recognized by the GNAC. Hayden has been and continues to be a big-game goalkeeper who we count on to play at a high-level," said head coach Pat Laughlin. "These individual awards are a result of a great team effort, and all the players share with Hayden in his recognition." This great team effort has resulted in the third-best goals against average in the conference at 1.00 per game. The group has combined to produce six shutouts with five of them coming in GNAC play – a testament to the team's strong defensive play this season.
The Pilgrims begin a mini road trip on Tuesday with a matchup against Colby-Sawyer before travelling to Dean on Saturday. Both games could have big impacts on the playoff picture as we approach the final few weeks of the regular season.
