Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Ends with Tie in Thriller

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's soccer team tied the game late against visiting Dean College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Don Melander Field in Henniker, New Hampshire.  

THE BASICS 
Score: Dean College 2, New England College 2 
Records: Pilgrims 1-0-3, 0-0-2 GNAC | Bulldogs 2-1-1, 0-1-1 GNAC 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The 'Grims drew first blood in what was an exciting match as freshman midfielder Santiago Sanchez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) scored at the 8' mark on a high-IQ play where senior forward Logan Cassin (Penacook, N.H.) dribbled a quick pass to get the Bulldog's goalie off guard. 
  • The second half got very chippy between these two past and current conference foes, where Dean's midfielder Luke Palmer (Windsor Locks, Conn.) scored two goals in under a minute and half, including a penalty kick at the 48' mark and a set-up goal at the 49' mark with an assist from senior forward Reinorf Kusi (Malden, Mass.). 
  • Yet, NEC would not be denied as in the final minutes sophomore midfielder Wyatt Flibbert (Windham, Maine) went full-on attack mode and looking to score but passing it off to senior midfielder Alex Rust (Hooksett, N.H.) who kicked it perfectly into the bottom-left side of the net at the 83' mark to ultimately end the game in a 2-2 tie. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Junior goalkeeper Hayden Walker (Manchester, N.H.) tallied five saves in the fourth game of the 'Grims thus-far undefeated season. 
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Godwin (Norwalk, Conn) was a little more active with seven saves on his end for the Bulldogs. 
  • It was a very evenly matched game on both sides as Dean had 17 shots (seven on goal) to NEC's 15 shots (nine on goal). 

UP NEXT 

  • NEC is back on the road Wednesday, September 13th when they face Emmanuel College (Mass.) on the Roberto Clemente Field at 7:00 PM. 
  • Dean plays their next game at the University of Saint Joseph (CT) at the USJ Athletics Complex at 6:00 PM.
