Jones Leads Women’s Basketball Past Lesley

HENNIKER, N.H. – Senior guard Asia Jones (Boynton Beach, Fla.) scored 17 points with eight assists to lead the New England College women's basketball team to an 83-47 win over against visiting Lesley University on Thursday evening at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire in a non-conference game against a fellow New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opponent.

TURNING POINTS
  • The 'Grims dominated early, opening the game with a 13-0 run capped off with a jumper from reigning NECC Rookie of the Week freshman guard Amya Moss (Viginia Beach, Virg.) with 4:36 to go in the first. The Lynx clawed their way back into the game with a 10-2 run, with Lesley senior forward Sophia Torres (Fort Mohave, Ariz.) finishing a fastbreak layup with 7:22 left in the second, pulling the visitors to within five. The first half ended with a burst of offense from NEC freshman guard Makiah Scott (Washington, D.C.) as she scored the Pilgrims final eight points of the half, including a pair of three-pointers as the hosts entered the break leading 37-21.
  • NEC came out swinging the third quarter, opening with a 16-2 rally to bust the game wide open capped off with a free throw from freshman guard Mackenzie McDonald (Boscawen, N.H.) as the lead hit 30 with 3:56 to go. The Lynx would never threaten again.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Jones had perhaps her best overall performance of the season, shooting 7-of-13 from the floor while tally four steals and pulling down five rebounds.
  • Scott finished with a career-high 16 points with five steals in a breakout effort for the rookie.
  • Lesley senior guard Sydnie Drezek (Seymour, Conn.) led all scorers with 20 points and six rebounds.
  • NEC senior forward Ericka Pratt (Miami, Fla.) posted another double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks.
  • Torres finished with ten points for the Lynx.
  • NEC junior guard Juliana Hernandez (McFarlane, Cali.) chipped in seven points with seven boards.

  • Up next for NEC, the team returns to NECC actions when they travel to Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday for a critical game in the conference standings, that tipping off at 1:00 p.m.
