Men’s Hoops Drops High Scoring Affair at Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The New England College men's basketball team lost at Mitchell on Saturday afternoon in New London, Connecticut in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action.  

THE BASICS 
Score: New England College 78, Mitchell College 90 
Records: Pilgrims 4-17, 1-3 NECC | Mariners 17-3, 4-0 NECC 

 
TURNING POINTS 

  • Mitchell scored the first 12 points of the game and grew an early lead to as much as 17 with 12:27 left to play in the first half. NEC responded with a 17-2 run of their own to cut the lead to 2 with 7 minutes left in the first. Mitchell brought a 5-point advantage into halftime. 

  • The two teams went back-and-forth in the second half, but Mitchell began to pull away with around 10 minutes remaining in the game. The Mariners pulled away late culminating in a 12-point loss for the 'Grims. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Junior guard Kyle Inglis (Burlington, Mass.) led the way scoring an efficient 26 points (10-15 FG) while adding 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. 

  • Coming off the bench, 'Grims freshman guard Michael Hills (Baton Rouge, Lous.) scored 14 points while freshman guard Junior Efosa (Haverhill, Mass.) brought down 6 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. 

  • The Mariners were led by senior guard Alfonzo Stokes (Bloomfield, Conn.) who put up 24 points and 9 rebounds.  

  • Mitchell senior guard Mikey Buscetto (Waterford, Conn.) filled the stat sheet with 22 points, 8 steals, and 7 assists, while fellow senior guard Jalen Benson (New London, Conn.) added 21 points. 

  • The Pilgrims shot an impressive 54.2% from the field while also connecting on 54.5% (6 of 11) of their three-point attempts. 

  • Mitchell found their advantages on the rebounding battle (44 to 23) and in turnovers (17 to 30) 

UP NEXT 

  • Up next for NEC, the team returns to their home court on Tuesday for a nonconference bout with Thomas College at 7:00 PM. 

  • Mitchell will look to expand their winning streak to eight when they host Fitchburg State on Monday at 6:00 PM.
