Babson Holds Off Men’s Ice Hockey, 3-1

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's ice hockey team lost 3-1 against visiting Babson College, the 15th-ranked team in the nation, on Friday evening at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

THE BASICS
Score:                    Babson 3, New England College 1
Records:               Pilgrims 9-11-1, 6-7-1 NEHC | Beavers 13-7-2, 8-5-2 NEHC

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a scoreless first period, the second saw the Beavers open up a 2-0 lead off goals from graduate forward Max Torrez (Framingham, Mass.) and freshman forward Brendan Kennedy (Georgetown, Ontario). Trailing by two, the 'Grims got on the board with 1:13 left in the second when NEC sophomore defenseman Connor Lefkof (Frisco, Texas) scored his second career goal, assisted by freshman forward Manny Cabral (Providence, R.I.) and sophomore forward Wyatt Andres (Brainerd, Minn.), going into the second intermission trailing 2-1.
  • Midway through the third period, Babson picked up a lucky break when a pair of back-to-back penalties gave the Beavers a five-on-three advantage. The visitors would take advantage, as junior defenseman Colby Bailey(Southborough, Mass.) found the back of the net for the insurance goal, and a flurry of 'Grim shots late fell short.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • NEC senior goalie Spencer Kozlowski (Vancouver, B.C.) tallied 40 saves on the night for the 'Grims.
  • Babson senior goalie Nolan Hildebrand (Penticton, British Columbia) finished with 25 stops.
  • Total shots were 43-26 in favor of the Beavers.

UP NEXT
