Husson Downs Men’s Hoops

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's basketball team lost 81-60 visiting Husson University on Monday evening at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action.

TURNING POINTS
  • Trailing in the opening minutes, the 'Grims used a 13-4 run to take their first lead of the game, with eight of those points coming from graduate forward Jayden McGrew (Garland, Tex.). Despite a gritty effort by NEC, a late surge by the visitors saw the teams go into halftime with Husson leading 41-34 behind a 17-point first-half from senior guard Jeremy Moronta (Brooklyn, N.Y.), including shooting three-of-three shooting from behind the arc. NEC sophomore guard Kyle Dzarnowski (Boca Raton, Fla.) led the Pilgrims with nine points in just ten minutes off the bench.
  • In the second half, the Eagles started to pull away, ultimately going up by as much as 24 with 3:18 off an and-one play from Husson sophomore forward Gil Matondo (Atlanta, Ga.).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Moronta led all scorers with 19 despite being held scoreless in the second half, filling the stat line with eight rebounds and seven assists.
  • Dzarnowski led the Pilgrims with a career-high 15 points in just 17 minutes, shooting five-of-seven from the floor and pulling down four boards.
  • Husson junior guard Riles Neff (Camarillo, Calif.) contributed 17 points with eight boards and dishing out five assists.
  • NEC junior forward Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) posted his third double-double on the season, scoring 10 points with 12 rebounds and a career-high five assists.
  • Husson graduate guard Derek Collin (Trenton, Maine) had a team-high nine rebounds for the Eagles with six points.
  • McGrew had his first double-double as a Pilgrim, with ten points and ten rebounds.
  • A 19-4 advantage in points-off-turnovers proved to be decisive for the Eagles.

  • Up next for NEC, the team hosts Middlebury College in one of their toughest tests of the season next Tuesday with a 5:00 p.m. tip-off time.
