Men’s Basketball Has No Answer Against the Panthers

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's basketball team could not get the win against visiting Middlebury College on Tuesday evening at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action.  

THE BASICS 
Score: Middlebury College 80, New England College 70  
Records: Panthers 2-4, 0-0 NESCAC | Pilgrims 1-5, 0-0 GNAC 

 
TURNING POINTS 

  • NEC started out comfortably as they led 11-9 just under six minutes into the game with sophomore guard Kyle Dzarnowski (Boca Raton, Fla.) hitting the go-ahead jumper. 
  • Middlebury responded to that with a 15-3 run in a 10-minute span with sophomore guard Evan Flaks (Baltimore, Md.) leading the charge with five straight points. 
  • The first half would end with senior guard Noah Osher (Northbrook, Ill.) putting the Panthers up by 37-27, behind his 14 points on 6-10 shooting. 
  • Middlebury kept the lead all through the second half but was in a scare when the 'Grims went on an 8-0 run midway in the half, cutting it to 58-53 after junior center Justin Dunne's (Derry, N.H.) layup. 
  • The second half ended with the same point-differential as the first half with 10, as Osher contributed 12 points in 5-6 from the field and 2-3 from deep in the half. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Osher led both teams in scoring as he had 26 total points to go along with two rebounds, three assists, and three steals. 
  • NEC graduate guard Jayden McGrew (Garland, Tex.) scored a team-high 16 points on 6-9 shooting while grabbing four bords and dishing out seven assists. 
  • Junior guard Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) gave the 'Grims some good shooting by going 2-3 from the arc which factored into his 12 points. 
  • NEC sophomore guard Michael Hills (Baton Rouge, Lous.) dropped in a nice 10 points while coming off the bench.
  • Both teams were effecive from the field as Middlebury shot 32/62 (51.6%) from the field and 9/22 (40.9%) from deep as NEC made 28/56 (50%) from the field and 3-7 (42.9%) from the arc. 
  • The 'Grims had almost twice the amount of bench points with a 29-15 advantage over the Panthers. 
  • NEC also had a 38-22 advantage on bench points in the game. 

UP NEXT 

  • Up next for NEC, the team will host its first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference game at the Bridges Gymnasium as they face the AMCATS of Anna Maria College on Saturday, December 2nd with tipoff at 3:30 PM. 
  • Middlebury will look to keep their momentum going as they face the University of Rochester at home in the UAA/NESCAC Challenge on Saturday, December 2nd at 3:30 PM.
