CASTLETON, Vt. – The New England College men's ice hockey team defeated Castleton on Friday evening at the Spartan Arena in Castleton, Vermont in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Spartans got the scoring started with 13:43 left in the first period with a goal scored by sophomore forward Andrew Stefura (Boston, Mass.), assisted by sophomores Bryce Irwin (Victoria, B.C.), and Zach Papapetros(North Andover, Mass.).

Not even two minutes later, the Pilgrims found their equalizer off a rebound by freshman forward Graham Hassan (Howell, Mich.) for his first career goal. He was assisted by senior forward (Rapid City, S.D.) Chris Lee and sophomore defender Mattias Thorén (Stockholm, Sweden).

After a scoreless second period, NEC junior forward Anthony Cinato (Warren, Mich.) scored the go-ahead goal with 9:13 left to play, with the assist coming from both freshman defenseman Graham Padgitt (St. Charles, Ill.) and senior forward Jhuwon Davis (Detroit, Mich.).

With 7:17 left in the third period, the 'Grims struck once again when sophomore forward Wyatt Andres(Brainerd, Minn.) won a face-off and immediately dished it back to senior defender JP Chauvin(Massena, N.Y.) who took a shot from just in front of the blue line and found the back of the net.

The Pilgrims would add another goal to further cushion their lead with 3:10 left in the game when senior forward Alex LaPlante (Londonderry, NH.) intercepted the puck directly in front of the opposing net and snuck past the goalie for his team-high eleventh goal of the season.

Pilgrims' senior goalie Andrew Kormos (Milford, Mich.) tallied 24 saves, good for a .960 save percentage.

Spartans' freshman goaltender Josh Ward (Ottawa, ON) stopped 30/34 shots in the loss.

NEC outshot Castleton 54 to 40 on the night.

The 'Grims are now 24-10-5 all-time against Castleton after completing the season sweep of the Spartans.
