Men’s Ice Hockey Downed by Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY. – The New England College men's ice hockey team fell to Skidmore College on Saturday at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink in Saratoga Springs, New York in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) play.  

THE BASICS 
Score: New England College 2, Skidmore College 5 
Records: Pilgrims 9-9-1, 6-5-2 NEHC | Thoroughbreds 11-4-2, 5-3-2 NEHC 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Just 2:28 into the game, Skidmore, short-handed, took the lead on an unassisted goal by senior defender Joe Biddle (Andover, Mass.). Exactly 30 seconds later, the Thoroughbreds struck again when sophomore Jaden York (Beaumont, AB) found the back of net to give the home team a quick 2-0 lead.  

  • At the 12:23 mark in the first period, it was Skidmore once again adding to their lead off the stick of freshman forward Ryan Waltman (South Bend, IN) resulting in a 3-0 advantage going into the second period.  

  • Just 0:47 into the second, sophomore forward Wyatt Andres (Brainerd, Minn.) put NEC on the board, assisted by freshman forward Manny Cabral (Providence, R.I.) and junior defenseman Zach Nelson (Hudson, Mass.). 

  • With only 40 seconds remaining in the second period, the Pilgrims narrowed Skidmore's lead to just 1, as junior forward Anthony Cinato (Warren, Mich.) scored his tenth goal of the season. He was assisted by graduate forward Bernie McGovern (Medford, Mass.) and senior forward Alex LaPlante (Londonderry, N.H.).  

  • Skidmore put a stop to the NEC comeback as they cushioned their lead with two fourth-quarter goals by sophomore forward Jack Strauss (Phoenix, AZ) and junior forward Mason Beecher (Billerica, Mass.). 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Senior goalie Spencer Kozlowski (Vancouver, B.C.) started for the 'Grims and stopped 6 of 9 shots before he was replaced by senior goalie Andrew Kormos (Milford, Mich.). Kormos stopped 35 of 37 shots, good for a .946 save percentage in relief. 

  • Skidmore's junior goalie Tate Brandon (Irvington, NY) tallied 28 saves in the win.  

  • On the night, Skidmore outshot New England College 49 to 36.  

UP NEXT 

  • Up next for NEC, the 'Grims return to their home ice on Tuesday at 7:00 PM for a nonconference showdown against Framingham State University. 

  • Skidmore looks ahead to a Tuesday matchup with NEHC opponent Castleton University at 6:00 PM.
