HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's ice hockey team won 6-2 against visiting Johnson & Wales University on Friday evening at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The 'Grims wasted no time whatsoever jumping on the board as junior forward Anthony Cinato (Warren, Mich.) scored his seventh goal of the season just 1:37 into the game, assisted by freshman forward Graham Hassan (Howell, Mich.) and senior forward Jhuwon Davis (Detriot, Mich.).
  • NEC sophomore forward Wyatt Andres (Brainerd, Minn.) scored back-to-back goals in the fifth and eighth minutes of the game, both assisted by freshman forward Manny Cabral (Providence, R.I.) as the Pilgrims took a 3-0 lead.
  • Cabral scored himself on a power-play with 7:28 left in the first for his fifth goal of the year, assisted by Andres and sophomore defenseman Connor Lefkof (Frisco, Texas).
  • NEC senior forward Alex LaPlante (Londonderry, N.H.) – the Male Pilgrim of the Month for December – rounded out the first period with a solo goal with 6:05 to go for his team-leading tenth goal of the season with assists to Cinato and NEC senior goalie Andrew Kormos (Milford, Mich.).
  • The Wildcats got one back on a power play 4:54 into the second period, as JWU freshman forward Brendan Doyle (Stratham, N.H.) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season to make the score 5-1.
  • NEC junior forward Linus Udd Hellgren (Gavle, Sweden) scored his second goal of the season with 11:55 to go in the second on an unassisted shot, assisted by LaPlante and graduate forward Bernie McGovern (Medford, Mass.).
  • Penalties continued to by the 'Grims Achilles' heel as JWU junior forward Brent Rickett (Portland, Maine) scored his fourth goal of the year to wrap up the second period scoring.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Kormos picked up the win after tallying 16 saves between the pipes.
  • JWU sophomore goalie Jacob Perrin (Chelmsford, Mass.) recovered from a tough first period to finish with 45 saves on the night.
  • Shots were 51-18 in favor of the 'Grims.
