Sibley Concludes Season as LEC Player of the Week

HENNIKER, N.H. - Junior Gunnar Sibley (Monticello, Minn.) of the New England College men's ice hockey team was named the Little East Conference (LEC) Player of the Week for the week ending on February 23rd.

Sibley had a big weekend to close out the Pilgrims' season and was rewarded for his efforts by earning the final LEC weekly honor of the regular season. He becomes the third member of the team to be named Player of the Week in the 'Grims' first campaign in the LEC.

The Pilgrims earned a pair of victories against nationally ranked Babson and Southern Maine, with Sibley being involved in five of the team's seven goals across the two games. On Friday night, the 'Grims earned their third straight victory over Babson, knocking off the 11th team in the nation, 3-2. Sibley made the assist leading to the game-tying goal in the third period before the team eventually took and kept the lead.

Sibley had perhaps his best game of the season on Saturday against USM, recording his first career hat trick and assisting on the team's final goal in a 4-2 effort. The four-point performance was also the first of his Pilgrim career. His first goal of the game was a short-handed score – his second of the season which is tied for first in the conference.

The junior forward closed out the season with nine goals and 11 assists – good for the second most points on the team with 20. He just barely edged his career-best in both assists and points, sitting with 49 career points on 25 goals and 24 assists in a Pilgrim uniform.
