Golden Bears Drop Women’s Ice Hockey

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's ice hockey team lost 4-0 against visiting Western New England University on Tuesday evening at the Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The opening minutes saw the 'Grims as the aggressors, peppering the Golden Bear netminder with a flurry of shots early on. Despite the promising start, it would be WNE to strike first, as rookie forward Maddie Pope (Plantation, Fla.) scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season to put the Bears up 1-0 after one, assisted by junior forward Alyssa Murphy (Plymouth, Mass.) and junior defender Alexa Paoli (Steamboat Springs, Colo.).
  • In the second, Western New England picked up two more goals, those coming from Paoli and Pope.
  • Murphy scored on a power play in the third for the final score.
  • NEC freshman forward Olivia Lindberg (Enkoping, Sweden) led the 'Grims with five shots.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC senior goalie Hannah Podvey (West Caldwell, N.J.) tallied 46 saves in a valiant effort for the 'Grims.
  • WNE junior goalie Rieley Jessie-Gerelli (Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y.) picked up the shutout with 37 stops.
  • Total team shots were 50-37 in favor of the Golden Bears.
