Clark Claws Away in the Second Half Against the ‘Grims

Worcester, Mass. – The New England College women's basketball team took the loss at Clark University on Tuesday at Kneller Athletic Center in Worcester, Massachusetts in non-conference action.  

THE BASICS 
Score: New England College 50, Clark University 65 
Records: Pilgrims 7-6, 0-0 NECC | Cougars 8-6, 0-0 NEWMAC 

 
TURNING POINTS 

  • NEC shot just under 44% from the field as it ended the first quarter in a 17-15 deficit. Clark got help from Alaina Schatzabel (Kennebunk, Me.) by scoring 8 of their 17 points.  

  • The game was still neck and neck in the second quarter as the Cougars slightly outscored the 'Grims 19-18. Thus, making the halftime score 36-33 in favor of Clark. 

  • Clark started to pull away from NEC with 4:51 left in the third quarter and never trailed again while ending up with a 29-17 outing in the whole second half. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Junior center Kathleen Rodriguez (McFarlane, Cali.) and junior guard Juliana Hernandez (McFarlane, Cali.) led the 'Grims with 10 points each in the loss. 

  • Rodriguez ended up with nine rebounds (one offensive), while her running mate, senior forward Ericka Pratt (Miami, Fla.), came up with eight boards (two offensive). 

  • Clark was led by Schatzabel as she finished with 22 points and five rebounds in the win. 

  • The Cougars also had a big lift from Jacqueline Faulise (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Mariah Harris (Stoughton, Mass.) with each scoring 15 points while Faulise pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. 

  • Despite the loss, NEC outrebounded Clark 45-39 for the night and ended with a 11-2 advantage on second-chance points. 

  • The Cougars were sharing the ball all night as they tallied 17 assists out of their 23 field goals, while also winning the turnover battle 21-25. 

UP NEXT 

  • Up next for NEC, the team will return to Bridges Gymnasium to take on Eastern Nazarene University in their NECC conference opener on Saturday January 14th with tip-off at 1:00 PM. 

  • Clark University will host in-town rival Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
