HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pilgrims played one of their best sets of the season to open the match against a NEWMAC opponent, leading by as much as six and taking a 25-24 lead off a kill by junior middle blocker Tatiana Sampson (Kailua, Hawaii) to earn themselves set point. But the Blue answered with three straight rallies to take it down.
- After falling short in the second set, NEC refused to back down in the third, going up 12-10 at one point. Later down 23-19, they reeled off three straight rallies including a service ace from senior middle blocker Samantha Vargas (Riverside, Calif.) to pull to within one. But it would not be enough at Wellesley would again finish down the stretch.
