HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's ice hockey team prevailed 5-2 over visiting Chatham University on Friday evening at the Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action.

THE BASICS
Score:                    Chatham 2, New England College 5
Records:               Pilgrims 4-6-1, 1-4-1 NEHC | 4-7-1, 4-3-1 UCHC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • NEC junior forward Emily Lenzen (Littleton, Colo.) continued to show why she's been the 'Grims top scorer as she got her team on the board just 8:46 into the first period on a putback, assisted by graduate defender Kaylee Cross (Arvada, Colo.) and freshman forward Olivia Lindberg (Enkoping, Sweden) as the hosts entered the first intermission leading 1-0.
  • In the second, NEC goals from Cross and junior forward AK Fuentes (Aspen, Colo.), putting the 'Grims up 3-1 going into the final stanza.
  • In the third, the Pilgrims picked up an insurance goal as senior forward Tatiana Fedeneva (Pervouralsk, Russia) scored her third goal of the season 1:01 in and that would be needed as Chatham scored off a power-play and was at one point playing with a five-to-three advantage. But the 'Grims defense tightened, with sophomore forward Meaghan McCamish (Warwick, R.I.) scoring an empty-netter in the closing minutes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC sophomore goalie Thea Joerö (Uppsala, Sweden) picked up her second win after tallying 36 saves between the pipes for the 'Grims, the second-highest total of her career.
  • Chatham junior goalie Lilly Rogers (Orlando, Fla.) finished with 33 saves for the Cougars.
  • Cross, Lenzen and Fedeneva each finished with one goal and one assist in a balanced attack.
  • The teams were tied in total shots, 38-38.
UP NEXT
  • NEC and Chatham have a quick turnaround, as they'll be back at Clement Arena on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
