HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's ice hockey program won their first New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) game in nearly four years on Saturday afternoon as they beat Salem State University 3-2 at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down 1-0 going into the second, the 'Grims got on the board 4:23 in when senior forward Mikayla Vincent (Newburyport, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season, assisted by junior forward Emily Lenzen (Littleton, Colo.) to knot it up at 1-1.
- Still tied going into the third period, NEC went ahead just 1:35 in when freshman defender Gabrielle Iwinski (Batavia, Ill.) scored her first career goal, assisted by fellow rookie, Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.).
- Finally, with 8:06 remaining in the game, NEC freshman defender Jordan Pond (Gardner, Mass.) scored the eventual game-winner on an unassisted shot for her first career goal, as the Pilgrims held on for a 3-2 victory.
- It was the Pilgrims' first win in NEHC action since December 7, 2018; a 1-0 home victory over the University of Southern Maine.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC sophomore goalie Thea Joerö (Uppsala, Sweden) picked up her first career win with a 20 save performance for the 'Grims.
- Salem State senior goalie Hannah Aveni (Melrose, Mass.) tallied 38 saves on the day.
- NEC outshot Salem State, 41-22.
- The 'Grims are now 5-6 all-time against the Vikings.
UP NEXT
- NEC will close out their home schedule for the semester on Friday and Saturday as they host Chatham University, with the Friday game at 4:00 p.m. and the Saturday game at 1:00 p.m.
- Salem State travels to Worcester State on Friday for a 7:10 p.m. game.
