LYNDON, Vt. – The New England College men's basketball team opened their 2022-2023 season with a thrilling 69-68 loss at Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Tuesday evening at Stannard Gym in Lyndon, Vermont in non-conference action.

TURNING POINTS
- Down for most of the game, the 'Grims came charging back in the second half, taking a 48-47 lead with 9:34 to go in the game by freshman shooting guard Stravis Lutchman (Bradenton, Fla.). Then down one with 31 seconds remaining, it was again Luchtman putting NEC ahead, burying a layup. With one second left, Lyndon junior guard Mondwell Bukle (Pyeongtaek, South Korea) buried a jumper to put the Hornets ahead once again. The 'Grims were unable to get a shot off, coming up just short in their rally.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC freshman guard Jasen Stovall (Tampa, Fla.) led the 'Grims with 13 points off the bench.
- Bukle led the Hornets with 15 points and eight rebounds.
- NEC sophomore guard Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) was a force inside, pulling down a team-high 12 boards and scoring seven points.
- Lyndon senior guard Antonio Carlisle (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) added 15 points and four boards.
- NEC freshman guard Michael Hills (Baton Rouge, Lous.) filled the stat-line with 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Three-point shooting proved to be the difference. The Hornets outshot the Pilgrims, 33.3 percent to 18.8 percent.
