UMass Boston Downs Men’s Ice Hockey in NEHC Play

BOSTON, Mass. – The New England College men's ice hockey team lost 5-2 at UMass Boston on Friday evening at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink in Boston, Massachusetts in their New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After the Beacons took a 1-0 lead in the first period, they scored three more in rapid succession in the second to take a commanding lead. Down 4-0 late in the second, NEC junior forward Anthony Cinato      (Warren, Mich.) scored the 'Grims first goal of the season, unassisted on a power play.
  • 5:59 into the third, NEC freshman forward Manny Cabral (Providence, R.I.) scored his first career goal to pull the Pilgrims to within two, assisted by junior forward Linus Udd Hellgren (Gavle, Sweden). But the Beacons put up an insurance goal late to put the game away.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • NEC senior goalie Spencer Kozlowski (Vancouver, B.C.) tallied 43 saves in net for the 'Grims in a heroic effort.
  • UMB senior goalie Sam Best (Woburn, Mass.) picked up the win for the Beacons with 25 saves.
  • Shots were 81-44 in favor of UMass Boston, who enjoyed a 48-27 edge in shots-on-goal.

  • NEC is back on the ice on Saturday when they travel down to Johnson & Wales University for a 4:00 p.m. game.
  • UMB hosts Norwich University in their next contest, likewise on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
