Men’s Ice Hockey Secures First Win at Johnson & Wales

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The New England College men's ice hockey team picked up their first win of the season at Johnson & Wales University on Saturday at the New England Sports Village in Attleboro, Massachusetts in New England Hockey Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • 11:41 into the game, New England College got on the board early when freshman defender Graham Padgitt(St. Charles, Ill.) netted his first career goal with an assist from senior forward Hunter Hall (Boise, Idaho).
  • Not even two minutes later, the Pilgrims would score again with a power play goal by senior forward Alex LaPlante (Londonderry, N.H.) assisted by both junior forward Linus Udd Hellgren (Gavle, Sweden) and sophomore defensemen Connor Lefkof (Frisco, Texas)
  • Looking to expand the 2-0 lead, the Pilgrims struck again when sophomore forward Wyatt Andres deposited his first career goal 7:57 into the second period, assisted by LaPlante and Lefkof.
  • 9:09 into the second period, NEC took advantage of another power play as freshman forward Kam Hellman(Macomb, Mich.) joined in on the scoring with his first career goal, with assists from senior forward Chris Lee(Rapid City, S.D.) and Hall.
  • Just 32 seconds later, sophomore forward David Novotny (Delray Beach, Fla) would give the 'Grims a 5-0 lead with a goal assisted by junior forward Anthony Cinato (Warren, Mich.) and Udd Hellgren.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Pilgrims' senior goalie Andrew Kormos (Milford, Mich.) collected 33 saves in the win.
  • Wildcats' sophomore goalie Jacob Perrin (Chelmsford, Mass.) took the loss while saving 16 shots before being relieved by senior Mike Camasso (Bristol, Conn.) who went 9-9 on saves.
  • Total shots were 35-30 in favor of Johnson & Wales.
  • Lefkof, Hall, and Udd Hellgren each collected two assists a piece.
  • NEC remains undefeated against JWU through 10 meetings, sitting at 9-0-1 in the all-time series.

  • NEC will look to build off this win when they host Skidmore this coming Friday at 7:00 PM.
  • Johnson & Wales looks ahead to Friday at 7:00 PM when they visit the University of Southern Maine.
