HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's volleyball team swept visiting Mitchell College in straight sets in the semifinals of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship semifinals on Thursday evening at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- NEC junior outside hitter Amber Thi (Kalihi, Hawaii) was dominant for the second-seeded 'Grims in the first set, tallying eight kills including the set point.
- In the second set, the third-seeded Mariners jumped out to a 6-2 lead behind the serving of senior setter Claire Binfield (Las Vegas, Nev.), as the visitors kept pace with the Pilgrims throughout. Finally holding set point at 25-24, it was once again Thi putting it away to put NEC up two-sets to none.
- In the third, the 'Grims pulled away down the stretch. Junior middle blocker Tatiana Sampson (Kailua, Hawaii) put the match away, going over the net and putting it down on match point.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Thi, a two-time All-NECC selection, had arguably her best match of the season, amassing match-highs of 17 kills and 17 digs with two service aces and a .364 hitting percentage.
- Sampson contributed seven kills with three total blocks. With that total, Sampson becomes the Pilgrims' all-time leader in career total blocks with 168, passing former NEC great Dreka Griffin (2017 – 19) who finished with 167.
- NEC senior libero Jaycie Kodama (Pauoa Valley, Hawaii), playing before the Pilgrim home crowd for the final time in her storied career, added 10 digs with five set assists.
- NEC freshman setter Aurora Gutierrez-Macias (El Paso, Tex.) had one of her best performances of her rookie season, coming off the bench with 13 set assists and 15 digs.
- Mitchell sophomore outside hitter Allison Blum (Garden Grove, Cali.) led the Mariners with eight kills and 11 digs.
- NEC is now 7-0 all-time against Mitchell, and they will continue their rivalry next season as both schools join the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) as first-year members.
UP NEXT
- NEC advances to the NECC finals for the third consecutive season. They'll travel to Eastern Nazarene College on Sunday to play the top-seeded host Lions for the championship.
